When you hear that your friend is in a car accident, you probably have a lot of questions. While hearing this news may be stressful and concerning, imagine how traumatizing it is for your friend. You probably have a strong desire to help but you may not be sure how to do it. There are some easy things you can do to be a supportive friend after a motor vehicle crash. Follow these steps to comfort and assist your friend after a car collision injury.
1. Do chores and run errands: Even if your friend does not have a debilitating injury from the wreck, he or she is likely sore and shaken up. Anyone in this situation needs a little help. Here are some things you could do to help out:
- Go grocery shopping
- Do the laundry
- Watch the kids or pets
- Clean the house
- Pick up medications
You do not need to do something huge and monumental to help your friend. Even doing small things will help someone when he or she is recovering.
2. Go to appointments: Depending on the physical state your friend is in, you may want to tag along or even drive him or her to important meetings and appointments. Drive your friend to see the doctor or meet with a personal injury lawyer.
3. Simply be there: Sometimes, people who are recovering just need a listening ear. You do not always need to be doing or saying something. Simply asking to come over and hang out is enough sometimes. Try not to go overboard with advice. Understand when your friend just needs some space too.
Every car accident has unique factors, and people react differently, too, so it is important to base the assistance you offer on your friend's specific circumstances. If your friend has not talked with a lawyer, try to convince him or her to seek legal counsel. Your friend may be eligible for compensation for medical costs, lost income, pain and suffering and other economic and noneconomic losses.
